ON HOLD # £175 OR BEST OFFER SUPERB DUTCH 17 TH / 18TH CENTURY BOAR HUNTING HORSEMANS SWORD WITH ETCHED BLADE, SUPERB BRASS RE CURVING LONG QUILLONS AND LARGE BRASS POMMEL WITH ORIGINAL BRASS MOUNTED LEATHER SHEATH.
Overall nice condition especially considering its age and usage.
Has the original etching on the blade in correct running scrolled script... "L. De Jager De Haarlem". and on the other side its original armourers stamp, a "Z" in a shield surmounted by a crown and two feathers.
A rare hunting sword in having an unusually long blade for a hunting sword about 83.5 cm (33 inch) blade. Because of the length of the blade this must have been a horsemans sword made for hunters on horseback.
We have been informed that this is the type of sword made for the North European Hunting Market such as Germany, Northern France and Holland. We were also informed that this is a Wild Boar Hunting Sword.Although have not yet been able to confirm these sword details.Any info greatly appreciated. Thanks
Complete with its original heavily ribbed wood grip and brass mounted leather scabbard.
Some slight age staining to blade, but the blade is in nice condition. The outer section of one of the quillons has a very very slight sidewards bend.
We are totally sure this is the original brass mounted leather sheath but the leather has has quite an involved intricate leather sections repair would say because the join on the back has come unstitched. Would also say the long large hard leather chape on the
tip of the scabbard is a replacement.
Otherwise a rare possibly very rare North European Hunting Sword in overall nice condition.
