!!! RESERVED on 9/3/17 !!!~ WW2 Hand Made-Family Blade Japanese Officer’s Katana Sword And Scabbard ~
This in one of the few privately made WW2 Japanese officer’s swords with a civilian scabbard.
The tang is signed YOSHIDA KANE YOSHI SAKU meaning "this blade was made by Yoshjda Kane Yoshida".
The blade is made in the ‘shinogi-kukuri’ pattern.
Its mune (blade back) is shaped in the 'Ihori' style and its kissaki (point) is ‘o’ (long).
The boshi (sword tip) hamon is omaru (large circle).
The hamon is shaped in the ‘Notare’ (wave/swell) pattern.
The swords fittings are made of steel, brass and gilded copper and decorated with cherry blossom flowers.
The habaki (blade locket/ferrule) is made of copper.
The brass tsuba (guard) is decorated with cherry flowers.
There are three seppa (spacers), two on the blade side, one of steel and one of brass and one still made one on the grip side.
The fushi (sleeve) is made of brass and is covered in leather.
The tsuka (grip) is made of bamboo covered with white rayskin and brown coloured woven silk. The menuki (ornaments) are in the form of cherry blossom.
The tang nakako (shape) is futsu with a nakago-jiri (tang’s tip) shaped in the haagari pattern with gyaku-tka-no-ha (inverted hawk feather) yasurime (kesho tang file marks).
The saya (scabbard) is made of black painted bamboo and covered with brown leather. Its brass ring is of a civilian type.
~ Dimensions ~
The blade length is 27 inches (68.5 cm) and the sword overall length is 38 inches (96.5 cm). The sword in its scabbard length is 39 inches (99 cm). The complete weight is 1.33 Kg.
~ Condition ~
The blade is excellent free of any damage or wear
The hamon is clearly visible.
The signatures are clear as seen in the pictures.
The woven silk is worn.
All its fittings are in good condition with minimal wear and minor loss of gilt.
The scabbard’s overall condition is good.
