~ 1796 Pattern Heavy Dragoon Pistol ~
This 10 bore flintlock cavalry holster pistol is of the type used at the heavy cavalry charges at Waterloo in 1815.
It has a full stocked barrel and brass furniture. The barrel is marked L-D 1575 with several inspection marks. The stock is marked with number 1575 to match the barrel. Perhaps this is a reference to it being reissued to the Light Dragoons at a later date.
The pistol is equipped with a steel ramrod and steel lock.
The lock is marked with the Kings crown and G.R. There is no Tower stamp or other makers mark. The stock has a monogrammed silver plate reading P.C.W..
~ Dimensions ~
The pistol measures 15 inches (38cm)in length. The barrel measures 9 inches (23cm). It weighs 1.241kg.
~ Condition ~
The pistol is in good antique untouched condition. The mechanism works. The trigger has a little sideways play. The gun has a good bore.
The wood work is overall good with some light bruising but no chips. The metalwork is fine with light wear.
