~ An 1827 Pattern Elizabeth 2nd Naval Officers Sword By Wilkinson ~
The sword comes with its black leather covered brass scabbard and its gold bullion sword knot.
The sword is serial numbered on the blade twice 109862, indicating that is a post-1960 piece.
The hinged safety catch of the hilt is stamped B.R.N.C. (Britannia Royal Naval College).
The sword has a gilded brass basket bearing the fouled anchor beneath the Queen’s crown, wired white fish skin grip and a lion head pommel.
The foliage decorated straight blade is marked on one side with the Wilkinson trade mark and ‘EIIR’ and crown and on the other side with the serial number 109862 and fouled anchor beneath crown.
~ Dimensions ~
The blade length is 31 inches (78.8 cm) and the overall length of the sword is 36 ½ (92.7 cm).
The overall length of the sword in its scabbard is 38 ½ (97.7 cm).
It weighs 1.45 kg.
~ Condition ~
The blade’s tip deteriorated over time, developing some pitting and surface rust.
There are few other spots of rust on its edge.
The brass lost some of its gilt but its overall condition is good.
The grip is undamaged but requires some cleaning.
The scabbard has the expected wear.
