~ 1827 Pattern Victorian Royal Navy Officers Claymore Fighting Sword & Scabbard ~
An excellent example of this interesting variation of the standard RN officers sword dating to around 1870. The proofed blade has etched scrolls and the Queens crown over fouled anchor. Double fullers run across half the length on both sides.
The gilt brass guard, with fold down clip, has the Queens Crown and white sharkskin grip.
The scabbard is present with its two suspension rings and gilt brass fittings. The neck is marked for G. Rout of Portsmouth though this is worn.
~ Dimensions ~
The sword is 35 3/4 inches (91cm) in length with a 29 3/4 inch (76cm) blade.
The set weighs 1.1 Kg.
~ Condition ~
The sword is in excellent order with a clean nick free blade, just a few black spots. The brass fittings have lost some of their gilt, most noticeable on the back strap of the grip. The scabbard is in excellent order with tight stitching, just a few very minor dings to the tip fitting. The sword knot is a modern replacement and is in good order.
~ Postage ~
UK postage is £20 or the sword can be collected from our Portsmouth shop.
