~ 1892 Mk 1 Type 2 Lee Metford Bayonet With Scabbard By Mole ~
This is the 1888 Pattern of a Lee-Metford bayonet.
The blade has been stamped on one side with the manufacturing date”6 ’92” (June 1892), the maker’s name ‘Mole’ and a series of proof marks.
The reverse is stamped with a broad arrow "WD”, “(Crown) 35W” and the bend mark.
The edge of the blade bears a pair of the same proof marks.
The wooden grip is held together with two brass rivets and washers. The pommel is stamped with serial number "118", matching the serial stamped on the scabbard.
~ Dimensions ~
The blade length is 11.81 inches (30 cm) and a total of length of 17.32 inches (44 cm) when in scabbard.
It weighs 600 g.
~ Condition ~
The blade has some degree of metal darkening and some pitting but has no traces of rust.
The grips are excellent and the safety catch works as intended by the manufacturer.
The scabbard is in fair condition with the expected signs of ageing on the leather body and surface rust and pitting on its metal components.
