    ~ 1894 Dated 1858 Pattern Martini-Henry Yataghan Sword Bayonet And Scabbard ~

Some of the stamps on the blade faded with age but most of them are still visible.

The blade is stamped on one side with the manufacturing date of ’94 (1894), a pair of Enfield proof marks and the reissue date ‘03’ (1903).

On the other side the WD and arrow can be seen.

The edge of the blade is stamped ‘R’ and ‘I’.

The pommel of the bayonet is stamped ‘V, R.A.M.C, 496’ (Royal Army Medical Corps). The same serial number ‘496’ is stamped on the scabbard’s locket.

The metal part of the grip is stamped with a series of proof marks among which ‘M.H.’ initials and ‘B26’.

    ~ Dimensions ~

The blade length is 22.75 inches (58 cm) and the overall length of the bayonet is 28.0 inches (71.5 cm).

The overall length of the bayonet in its scabbard is 28.75 inches (73 cm).

    The set weighs 1 Kg.

    ~ Condition ~

The blade is excellent, free of any damage.

The other metal components had some surface rust but they were properly cleaned.

The chequered grips have minimal wear.

The leather scabbard has aged but remains free of tears and its metal components have minor dents, as expected for its age.

    ~ Postage ~

Postage is £18 or it can be picked up from our shop in Portsmouth Historic Dockyard.
