MINT, MUSEUM QUALITY, WW2 1939 British Royal Air Force 1930 Pattern ‘Sidcot’ Flying Suit With Size & Air Ministry Marks With Provenance To F/Lt John "Jackie" Hemingway (Flew 35 Bombing Sorties In Avro Lancasters with No. 75 (New Zealand SQ RAF 1944-45) - 13142

This is a near mint, original and large size RAF ‘Sidcot’ Flying Suit (see page 59 of the book Luftwaffe Vs RAF by Prodger). Dated 10 / 39 (October 1939) this Flying Suit was owned by a recorded WW2 RAF F/Lt who flew many operational bombing sorties. The Flight suit was recently acquired direct from the Son of the Officer who recounted the history of the Suit and his Father’s WW2 service as follows : “The background details of the flying suit are that it belonged to my Father, John "Jackie" Hemingway who flew 35 Operational Sorties as an Air Bomber (Bomb Aimer to the unschooled!) in the crew of pilot F/Lt Bob Simpson in Avro Lancasters with No. 75 (New Zealand) Squadron, R.A.F. in 1944 and 1945. My father progressed through the Sergeant Ranks to Flying Officer whilst on Operations and was eventually promoted to F/Lt in 1945. He left the R.A.F in 1946. No. 75 Squadron was based at R.A.F. Mepal in Cambridgeshire and was largely was composed of New Zealanders, supplemented by crew members from the UK. The son of one of the WW2 crew has started an online site that has grown into an enormous resource of original photos and documents for anyone interested in operational bomber squadrons in WW2 (https://75nzsquadron.wordpress.com/)”. The suit is made of the correct waterproofed green cotton, lined with linen. All material, stitching, buttons and zips of the flight suit are intact & clean. The suit has large fleece lined leg warmer pockets and thick fleece lined collar. It has the correct clean lining and Large map pocket, zip cuff arms & legs and diagonal front zip. It has excellent interior labels and ink stamps with size and stores code together with Kings crown, Air Ministry ‘AM’ marks & '39' (1939) date (all illustrated. The manikin head displayed in image 2 is not included). This Museum quality RAF flying suit to an Officer who saw much action in WW2 is worthy of further research. Price includes UK delivery.
