~ 1944 Lanchester MK1* Sub Machine Gun Old Spec Deactivation ~

The Lanchester was deactivated in 1989, as per the proofing house stamps on the magazine receiver. The original deactivation certificate was lost but we have the reissued one dated 28/08/2013.

The sub machine gun comes with a 50 round stick magazine and four inert 9mm cartridges.

The gun is marked on the brass magazine cover "Lanchester MK.1.* BOSS H78395 CF77" with one broad arrow beneath.

Also, on the same brass part but on top of the barrel it is stamped the production year '44' and another proof mark.

On the underside is an Egyptian stamp and a pair of Egyptian proof marks.

The carrying belt/bayonet fitting on the barrel is stamped with the serial 'S271'.

~ Dimensions ~

The Lanchestrer measures 33 inches (84cm) in total. The barrel measures 8 inches (20cm). The weight is 4.3kg.

~ Condition ~

The sub machine gun is in good, used condition. There is some light bruising to the woodwork with some minor chips. The metal has darkened.

The Lanchester can easily be cocked and dry fired.

~ Lanchester SMG ~

The Lanchester is a submachine gun (SMG) manufactured by the Sterling Armaments Company between 1941 and 1945. It is a copy of the German MP28/II and was manufactured in two versions, Mk.1 and Mk.1*; the latter was a simplified version of the original Mk.1, with no fire selector and simplified sights. It was primarily used by the British Royal Navy during the Second World War, and to a lesser extent by Royal Air

Force regiments (for airfield protection). It was given the general designation of Lanchester after

George Herbert Lanchester who was charged with producing the weapon at the Sterling Armaments Company.

~ Postage ~

Postage costs £18 or the Lanchester can be collected from our shop in Portsmouth Historic Dockyard.
