Here we have a wonderful percussion cap pepperbox revolver.
The piece is quite an impressive prestige item from the mid 19th century as a weapon for personal protection.
The type of pistol and the adornments point to this being a pistol for a very discerning gentleman who was willing to pay for a rather ornate and modern firearm.
The revolving barrels are all proof marked by the Birmingham proof house.
There doesn’t appear to be a makers mark.
The body and backstrap of the revolver have been engraved with vine patterns and the handle scales are of polished walnut.
The metal has darkened with age and it would appear this pistol was carried regularly with the wear to the engravings.
The pistols mechanism is in good working order.
~ Dimensions ~
The pistol is 8 inches (20 cm) long.
The barrels are 2.75 inches (7 cm) long.
The pistol weighs 670 g.
~ Condition ~
The pistol is in a good condition for its age.
There is some darkening to the metal from age.
There is some minor pitting to the outsides of the barrels and the hammer.
The pistols firing mechanism works.
~ Postage ~
UK postage is £20, international at cost and it can be viewed in our shop.
