    ~ An 19th Century Indian Katara Punch Dagger ~


    Featuring gold Koftgari inlay patterns along the "H" shaped grip and handle, the dagger is made of a rough iron construction, with a wooden scabbard with a fabric cover.

    ~ Dimensions ~

    The blade has a length of 8.3 inches (21cm), with the dagger having an overall length of 14 inches (35.5cm).

    ~ Condition ~

    The blade is slightly blackened, with some of the Koftgari pattern starting to rub and fade. The wooden scabbard is worn and has started to fall and break apart.

    ~ Postage ~

    UK postage is £18 or the item can be collected from our shop in Portsmouth Historic Dockyard.

    The katara or suwaiya is a type of push dagger from India. It is characterised by its H-shaped horizontal hand grip, which results in the blade of the sword sitting above the user's knuckles. Unique to South Asia, it is the most famous and characteristic of Indian daggers. Ceremonial katara were also used in worship
