Sn 12627. - 12627The Glasgow Highlanders was a former infantry regiment of the British Army, part of the Territorial Force, later renamed the Territorial Army. The regiment eventually became a Volunteer Battalion of the Highland Light Infantry (City of Glasgow Regiment) in 1881. The regiment saw active service in both World War I and World War II. In 1959 the Highland Light Infantry (City of Glasgow Regiment) was amalgamated with the Royal Scots Fusiliers to form the Royal Highland Fusiliers (Princess Margaret's Own Glasgow and Ayrshire Regiment). The Glasgow Highlanders was later amalgamated into the 52nd Lowland Volunteers in 1967. This is an original WW1 / WW2 5 tassel Sporran to the Scottish 9th Highland Light Infantry (City Of Glasgow Regiment). The brown horse hair sporran has 5 black horse hair tassels, all with black painted metal top mounts. It has its brown leather cantle with flap covered pocket and stud button. The cantle has contemporary hand writing ‘No. 5256 W.F. Cranston 9th HLI’ (Highland Light Infantry). The cantle also has 2 small belt loops. The front of the Sporran has the white metal Regiment badge of the 9th Highland Light Infantry (City Of Glasgow Regiment) which is similar to the badge of the Black Watch & features St Andrew with Cross above a field of Thistles.
