A c1870 Westley Richard monkey tail rifle.
The lock plate has the stamp 'Westley Richards & Co.' whilst the the breech end of the barrel has the stamp 'Whitworth Patent' & the monkey tail breech cover has the stamp 'manufactured by Westley Richards'. The left side of the receiver is stamped with typical Birmingham proof marks with a "52" gauge mark (.45 caliber).
The serial number is 642.
The rifle is 41.5 inches (105.5cm) in overall length, with the barrel measuring 23.5 inches (59.75cm).
Condition wise, some minor wear to the woodwork but that is still in good order with no major splits. The metalwork is in decent order with much browning remaining. All mechanisms work sweetly.
The monkey tail was a muzzle-loading – breech-loading percussion rifle, much prized for its long range accuracy. Patented in March 1858 it has an astounding history, still being made in the late 1880’s and in military service until the turn of the Century.

Payment & Lay Away: Card payments can be taken over the phone. We do not take Paypal. We can do lay away terms by agreement. Generally we ask a 20% deposit and the balance to be paid within 2 months. Part exchange is often a possibility.
Returns: In the rare event that you are not satisfied with the item we always accept returns. A full refund is given less any postage costs.
