This Horsley is of special interest and one of similar design can be found in the Horsley literature.
Back Action Sidelock Non-Ejector displaying Three Horsley Patents.
30" nitro proof barrels choked true and 1/4.
The action with carved fences and scroll engraving, the locks of non-standard form engraved withs scrolls and the namr Horsley & Son.
The hinge pin engraved with "Patent Block Safety Hammerless"
The action face shows "Pat Gas Chech No 4849"
The flats marked "Patent Action 47671" and in a surround. "Pat 1968 - 1978, No 21787"
The external metalwork showing signs of corrosion and subsequent cleaning especially around the top tang, safety catch and fore-end lever. (HENCE PRICE)
The 30" nitro proofed barrels signed Horsley & Son, York with 2 1/2" chambers have clean bores with light marks around the forcing cones. The barrels likely re-blacked over signs of external pitting at the muzzle end.
The well figured original stock has likely been refinished and the chequering freshened has 14 5/8" pull including 1/2" butt plate.
This historical piece is in full working order and has been tested to the displeasure of the local rabbit population. It is far from original condition, but is a superb talking point in any collection (trade)
