~ A new specification deactivated Iraq built KPV Machine Gun 14.5mm calibre heavy machine gun ~
This significantly sized machine gun is believed to be one of only two existing in public hands in Britain.
The KPV is an abbreviation for Krupnokaliberniy Pulemyot Vladimirova and is a Soviet designed 14.5x114mm caliber heavy machine gun, which first entered service as an infantry weapon (designated PKP) in 1949.
It was later redesigned for anti-aircraft use, because it showed excellent results as an AA gun.
Its size and power also made it a useful light anti-armour weapon on troop transport vehicles and on scout cars.
On top of the metal frame is stamped the serial no "110898" and the maker's mark. The same serial is manually etched on the bullet feeding mechanism.
On the loading handle and on the barrel (twice) is stamped the serial number "290243".
It comes with a wooden display support.
The deactivation certificate is dated 29/10/2004.
Also 25 14.5 caliber rounds are included.
