Circa 1840-1850. The makers name "GILLESPIE" engraved on the lock plate above decorative scrolling. "GILLESPIE WARRANTED CAST STEEL" engraved on top of the 2.5 inch barrel. George Gillespie was a gun maker in the late 1840's and 1850's and had premises on Warren street, New York City. Decorative scrolling on the trigger guard and hammer. A shield shaped escutcheon and finely chequered grips. Nickel silver side-plate and butt-cap. Iron trigger guard. Heavily rifled barrel. Slight chip to skirt on the hammer nose, otherwise In good condition retaining much of it's original lacquer to the wood. Action in good working order. A good looking piece. Overall length 7 inches.
