~ Victorian 1897 Pattern Royal Marine Officer's Dress Sword By R. Mole & Sons ~
The large hilt bears the Victorian cypher and is decorated with ornate scroll work and a chrome finish. The grip is of a dark fish skin with twisted wire binding and a silver bullion knot.
The blade has been beautifully etched with scroll designs and signed with the makers name to the ricasso:
'ROB MOLE & SONS, BIRMINGHAM, MAKERS TO THE WAR & INDIA OFFICERS'.
The forte of the blade is marked with 'M2294'.
Both sides of the blade bear the Kings crown and on one side also the Royal Marines crest.
This suggests that the sword was rebladed for use under Edward VII.
The sword comes with its plated metal scabbard with two suspension rings.

The sword in its scabbard measures 40 inches (102cm).
The blade itself measures 32.5 inches (82.5cm).
The hilt is approximately 6.5 inches (16.5cm) in length.
The sword weighs approx. 1.3 Kg.
~ Condition ~
This sword is in good condition for its type.
The large hilt has lifting of the plate.
The blade has darkened and the etchings are slightly worn (but still visible). There is some amount of pitting on the tip.
The scabbard has lost some of its chrome finish but is free of dents.
The grips are in very good order.
The silver bullion knot is worn.
