A scarce American Civil War era Remington "BEAL'S PATENT" .36 calibre 6 shot Percussion "Navy Model" Revolver c.1861-1862. The barrel stamped on top with "E BEALS' Patent Sept.14 1858. MANUFACTURED BY REMINGTONS' ILLION. N.Y.". Action in good working condition. These scarce revolvers were manufactured by Remington and were at the time in competition with Samuel Colt's .36 calibre model 1851 Navy Revolver. It is known that part of the production were sold privately and part of the production were ordered by the U.S. Government contracts placed during the American Civil War. The famous American showman William F. Cody (Buffalo Bill), carried the larger Remington Army model .44 revolver during the Indian wars in the mid 19th century and he was known to have said about his Remington "it never failed me".
