~ American Revolutionary War French M1767 Grenadier Hanger ~
This American Revolutionary War period French Model 1767 grenadier hanger consists of a slightly curved single edged blade with a one piece brass hilt with banded terminal quillion, a knuckle shaped stirrup form guard & ribbed grip. A small pommel sits at the end of the hilt.
Included is its original leather scabbard.
Short swords of this model were carried by the French Grenadiers De Marine as well as the Continental infantry troops during the years of the American Revolutionary War.
~ Dimensions ~
The blade has a length of 22 inches (55.9 cm), with the hanger measuring 27.5 inches (69.8 cm) overall, 28.5 inches (72.3 cm) when in scabbard. It weighs 660 g.
~ Condition ~
The blade has a large amount of blackening/pitting wear. The brass is a little worn but remains in good order. The scabbard has dried and started to crack/tear in a few areas but remains complete.
