    Full descriptions down below.

    FULL DETAILS:

Indian Torador Matchlock .55 Musket, £120/ NOW £96

Long but light, with fully working action, moving pan cover, decent wood condition. The barrel is 41 inches with a lovely patina, 4 barrel bands over a multiple-piece stock. Some cracking which does not affect handling. The pan itself is a little rusty and would need a clean before hypothetical firing, and the ramrod is a bit stuck. That said, this is in good condition considering it's age and humid origins. Light, long and a pleasure to handle.

African Percussion Breast Pistol, unique, £100/ NOW £80

A North African percussion gun in the 'breast pistol' (stocked) style. Carved stock, long narrow barrel. Missing a lock retaining screw, the mainspring is held in place weakly and the sear spring is a little seized (it can cock but is reluctant). ONE PICTURE SHOWS IT WITHOUT THE LOCK BUT THE LOCK IS INCLUDED IN THE SALE. It happened to be out for inspection when I took the photos. A photo with the lock fitted, and also a photo with the lock disassembled are also listed if you scroll through the pictures. The lock will come assembled, but parts will separate if not handled correctly.

M1874/80 French Gras Rifle, Artillery Carbine sporter, £250/ NOW £200

The metallic-cartridge (11x59R obsolete) successor to the Chassepot, the bolt was modified to automatically cock like the 1871 Mauser. The Gras was built mostly in France but some contracts were made in Belgium. This is a Belgian-made artillery carbine which has unfortunately been 'sporterised' and repainted. Other than the serials and proof marks, there are none of the usual markings (e.g. Arsenal). Working action, trigger a little dodgy. 3 different serials. Poor bore condition but everything functions. Good condition pieces go for up to £1000, poor ones a few hundred. This is fairly poor but all working and you don't see Belgian ones often. (This is the only one I've seen).

~ I have just added detailed pictures of the woodwork on this antique, to show you my description of "poor woodwork". As you can see, there is some cracking on the left-hand side of the receiver. Everywhere else, the stock, the grip, etc. is structurally sound and fine to handle.

M.885 Steyr Portuguese Guedes-Castro Rifle, rare, SOLD, thank you

Extremely rare Austrian-built rifle for Portugal. The first and one of very few smallbore (8mm) blackpower rifles. (Obsolete calibre). 40,000 were ordered from Steyr, but the contract was cancelled after allegedly 18,000 were made. Reports indicate that only 8,000 or just over were actually built. Most (over 7,700) were sold to the Boer Republics. There was no official marking system for Boer rifles, although most do have crude stampings: this displays only factory markings and the royal crest of Portugal, so may not have been exported. One or two replacement screws and some light worm marks but all-matching with great bore. Very rare and about the best condition these are ever found in.

One photo happens also to show a deactivated FN1900 and a Medieval Handcannon (15th century, German/Austrian). The 1900 is sold, the handcannon I will take £200 for / NOW £160.

    NOTE
The antiques are sold under ss.21 and 58 of the Firearms Act 1968 (as amended). I will also need a UK landline number. For more information on the pieces, email me or check my website www.thehistoryshop.co.uk
