Description

WW1 Era, 1913 Dated Hook Quillon 1st Type '07' Pattern Sword Bayonet By Enfield Marked '5 B.R' To The 5th Battalion Border Regiment & 1st Pattern Scabbard With Internal Chape. ED 2351

The Border Regiment was an Infantry Regiment of the line in the British Army, which was formed in 1881 by the amalgamation of the 34th (Cumberland) Regiment of Foot and the 55th (Westmorland) Regiment of Foot. After service in the First and Second World Wars, it was amalgamated into The King's Own Royal Border Regiment in 1959. Its lineage is continued today by the Duke of Lancaster's Regiment. During WW1 the 5th Battalion mobilised in August 1914 and saw action on the Western Front from October of that year. Five Members of the Regiment were awarded the Victoria Cross during WW1. This is an excellent 1st Type, hook quillon '07' sword bayonet by Enfield, complete with original 1st type scabbard. These bayonets were introduced in January 1908 (see page 186 of British & Commonwealth Bayonets by Skennerton). The sword bayonet has a 17" polished steel single edged blade which is stamped on the ricasso with the Kings crown and '1907' (pattern) together with date '8 13' (August 1913) and 'EFD' (Enfield). On the reverse it is stamped with inspection marks. The bayonet is fitted with it's original 1st Type hook quillon which incorporates a muzzle ring. The grips are smooth light coloured wood secured with two screw bolts. The pommel is stamped '5 B.R' (5th battalion Border Regiment) and weapon number '190'. It is complete with it's excellent original 1st Pattern leather scabbard with steel locket and internal chape. All the stitching and leather of the scabbard are intact. The price for Regiment Marked WW1 bayonet and 1st Pattern scabbard includes UK delivery. ED 2351
