The Bayonet referred to as the 'Bar On Band' model due to it's modified crossguard which positioned the muzzle ring a greater distance from the blade than the earlier Model 1856 bayonet to accommodate the 1858 Short rifles improved bayonet bar which was positioned on the forward band of the rifle (Bar On Band) as opposed to earlier rifles which had the bayonet bar brazed directly to the barrel (Bar On Barrel). The bayonets were made by English manufacturer's and the German Solingen trade (see pages 114 & 115 & plate B152 of Skennerton's book British & Commonwealth Bayonets). This is a nice example of the British Sword bayonet, Pattern 1858 'Bar On Band' Model, with Yataghan type blade. The polished steel blade is in clean undamaged condition. The blade is 22 3/4" long (28 1/2") overall and has a curving tip. The blade is fullered for three quarters of its length. The ricasso is stamped with part of the German, Solingen blade manufacturer's trademark. It's leather 2-piece grip is stamped with a chequered pattern. The grips have some service wear but are complete and intact. The steel mounted leather scabbard's stitching is intact with just service wear to be expected. Price includes UK delivery. ED 2354
