An original German WW1 Mauser 98/05 'Butcher Bayonet' dated 1917, by a scarce maker complete with a metal scabbard. The bayonet has 9 groove wooden grips which are secured with two bolts. The hilt has a flash guard to prevent damage when firing. It has a push button spring release which operates as it should. The crossguard has no muzzle ring. The crossguard is stamped on one side with "1168". The single edged polished steel blade has a makers stamp on the ricasso "DeutscheMaschine?? A-G D Uisburg" The blade measures 14 1/2" long, it gradually widens from being 1" wide at the ricasso to just over 1 1/4" wide at it's widest point. On the edge of the blade it is stamped with "W 15" The blade is in very good condition. The scabbard is metal, painted black with a metal frog stud. the scabbard is in good condition.
