The Beretta 418 is an itailan pocket pistol with many versions and the earliest examples date back to 1918. The 418 was favored by many Itailan officers during World War 2. Starting in the late 1940s untill the end of the production they were made with an aluminium frame. The 418 stayed in production untill the middle of the 1950s.
The Beretta 418 was also James Bonds first gun in Ian Fleming's early Bond novels untill a fan suggested to Fleming that the Italian Beretta 418 was a ladys gun and that a gun firing a larger cal bullet like the walther PPK would be more fitted to a secret agent. Then it changed to the PPK in a tribute to the fan Fleming named the character Q Major Boothroyd with the fan's name being Geoffrey Boothroyd.
