A scarce brass hilted infantry hanger or short sword from the era of the American Revolutionary war. Circa 1775-1783. This sword is British manufactured during the period 1745-1760. Turned wooden grip now missing the grip-wire. Brass knuckle-bow, solid brass shell guards and turned brass pommel. The brass edges re-inforced around the heart shaped guard edges. The shell guard struck with military markings - "P5 - 478". The single edged blade approx 27 inches long and stamped on the back edge with the makers name "GILL". Blade with some minor wear and the back quillon tip missing otherwise in very good condition. Nice period patina to the brass. A very good authentic piece from the U.S. Revolutionary war era, with the added interest of it being manufactured in Great Britain during the period just before the American Revolutionary War.
