MINT RIFLED BORE, Victorian 1872 British BSA Co Snider MK III .577 Calibre Artillery Carbine Volunteer Regiment Marked ‘V/EC1/550’ . Sn 13209 - 13209

This is an original British .577 Snider Patent artillery Carbine by BSA Co. The Snider action was introduced to British service in 1866 and muzzle loading Enfield Carbines were converted to allow the use of the .577 calibre brass cartridge. They remained in use until the Martini Henry was introduced. This Snider MK III carbine has a 21 ½” round steel barrel with a near mint bore, clean with crisp rifling. The metal work has nice finish throughout. It has a brass butt plate, fore end block & trigger guard. The butt plate tang is marked ‘V/EC1/550’ most likely to a Militia / Volunteer unit. The wood is excellent & all original. The stock is impressed with ‘1871 London’ roundel. The side plate is marked ’BSA Co’ together with ‘1872’ date & crisp Crown VR mark (Victoria Regina). The breech and barrel have proof/ WD inspection marks together with ‘E I 550’. The action is strong and works as it should. It has sling swivels, bayonet bar, ram rod, fixed foresight and adjustable rear ladder sight. Price for this carbine worthy of further research includes UK delivery. NB As an obsolete calibre weapon no licence is required to own this weapon in the UK if retained as a part of a collection or display. Sn 13209
