This is an excellent B.S. A. Model A, .177 calibre, Under Lever Air Rifle. These rifles were a follow on from BSA's No1 ladies/Light Model. It measures 39 1/2 inches overall with a 17" barrel. It has a lovely wood stock with unblemished fine chequered panels on the neck of the stock. The metal work is undamaged with an even patina throughout and is crisply stamped with the correct 'L' prefix serial number on the trigger block 'L 33532' which dates it to between 1938 and 1939. (See page 27 of the Collectors Guide to Air Rifles By Hiller). The air chamber is correctly lightly etched 'The BSA Standard Air Rifle .177 Bore (No.1) The Birmingham Small Arms co Ltd, England, Patented Sole Makers,' together with correct British & International patents. It is also etched by the retailer William Watson, Grange Hill, Beith (North Ayrshire, Scotland). It loads and fires as it should with a strong spring action.
