~ A c1770 Griffin Flintlock Dueling Pistol ~
The lockplate of this high quality pistol is stamped "Griffin" (before he joined forces with Tow) and the top of the barrel - with fore and rear sights - "London" with a floral pattern just behind and two proof marks to the side. The trigger guard is beautifully etched with an acorn finial.
The pistol has a hook breech and rolling frizzen spring. All five screws match and are finely chiseled to the flats.
The bore is approximately 15 gauge/.677".
~ Dimensions ~
The barrel has a length of 9 inches (22.75cm), with the pistol having an overall length of 15 inches (38.75cm).
~ Condition ~
The pistol half cocks, cocks and releases with a strong spring. The safety catch locks on half cock.
The barrel has areas of shallow pitting.
The stock is fair, with a hairline crack running around the butt, just behind the trigger. Near the muzzle, there is identical loss on both sides, probably intentional.
The ramrod is original to the piece. The top flint plate appears to be a replacement though the screw is original.
~ Postage ~
UK postage is £22 or the pistol can be collected from our shop in Portsmouth Historic Dockyard.
