~ A circa 1850 Percussion Turn Off Barrel Round Frame Pistol by Collings of Hexham ~
The pistol has a round turn-off barrel with rounded frame & a rounded chequered walnut sack butt. Did I say it was rounded...
The sides have been decorated with foliate swirl patterns. Just before the barrel the "Collings" name has been etched to the left side with "Hexham" faintly legible to the other side. There are three proof marks underneath.
The pistol half cocks, cocks and releases smoothly with a strong spring and concealed trigger.
The fitted safety catch works well.
~ Dimensions ~
The barrel has a length of 1.5 inches (4cm), whilst the psitol has an overall length of 6 inches (15.25cm). It weighs 220g.
~ Condition ~
The pistol is of a very decent quality. Some minor age wear to the metal work but the patterns and etchings all remain mostly visible though the "Hexham" stamp is very worn. The stock has a small chip on both sides, forward lower where it meets the frame. I cannot unscrew the barrel.
~ Postage ~
UK postage is £18 or the pistol can be collected from our shop in Portsmouth Historic Dockyard.
