~ A Bacon Manufacturing Company .31" Calibre 2nd Model Single Action Revolver ~
The top of the barrel is stamped 'BACON MF'G.CO. NORWICH. CONN.'
The serial number '488' is stamped on the reverse of the loading lever and on the underside of the barrel.
Bacon produced around 3000 of these over the period circa 1858-67. Given the low serial number this is likely to be pre- or early American civil war era.
There no other markings on the pistol.
The metal frame is engraved with foliate decorations to the rear of the cylinder.
~ Dimensions ~
The barrel length is 5 inches (12.8 cm) and the overall length is 10 inches (25.4 cm).
The weight of the pistol is 635 grams.
~ Condition ~
The pistol is in good used condition. The metalwork has developed a decent patina and there is virtually no pitting. The trigger guard was originally chromed but there is extensive loss to the finish there.
The wooden grip is in very good order, no chips or cracks, just some scuffing.
It cocks and indexes perfectly.
