MATCHING DATES, WW1 1916 Dated Canadian Ross Mark II, 1907 Patent, Bayonet & 1916 MK II Scabbard With Integeral Frog Regiment Marked ‘RRC’ To The Royal Rifles Of Canada. BAYO 15 - BAYO 15
An original WW1 Canadian Ross Mark II Bayonet for the Ross Rifle, complete with its matching date WW1 Scabbard and leather frog. The bayonet measures 14 3/4 inches overall and has an officially modified clean 10 inch blade (The last pattern of Ross bayonet with modified blade tip for greater penetration and spring/holding pin in the pommel). The bayonets wood slab grips are in excellent undamaged condition. The grips are clearly stamped with inspection marks. The pommel has clear War Department inspection marks, date stamp '2/16' ( Feb 1916) and bears the manufacturer's patent details ' Ross Rifle Co. Quebec, Patented 1907'. The bayonet is complete with its great condition leather scabbard which has an integeral leather frog with a large single belt loop. The scabbard is date stamped '1916 MK II ' and has inspection marks.(see page 45 of The Bayonet Book by Peter White). The scabbard is also impressed with Regiment mark ‘RRC’ to The Royal Rifles Canada (During WW1 The RRC saw action at YPRES, 1915, '17; FESTUBERT, 1915; MOUNT SORREL; SOMME, 1916; ARRAS, 1917; HILL 70; AMIENS).
