A very fine cased pair of Flintlock duelling pistols made by the world famous London Gunmakers TATHAM & EGG. Both pistols in very good condition. Circa 1801-1814. Tatham & Egg was a partnership between two very well known gunmakers. Henry Tatham and Joseph Egg who were both well established on their own account in London. They went into business together at 37 Charing Cross London during the period 1801-1814. This fine set of pistols has an interesting history as they were originally made for an aristocratic British family. Each pistol has a family crest engraved on the silver escutcheon. This crest is of an eagle grasping a baby in its tallons. This is the family crest used by 3 different English families according to "Fairbairns Crests of the Families Of Great Britain & Ireland" published 1986. This eagle and baby crest is illustrated on plate 123 number 11 where it states that it is the crest belonging to the Family of DARRELL & DUMOULINE & WALLEY. (Please see close up photo at the end of this description). The pistols have gold lined decoration to the breeches and a gold poincon marked "Tatham & Egg" inset into the top of each barrel. Finely engraved lock plates with sliding safetys engraved "TATHAM & EGG". The barrels have been very well re-browned. Fine engraved steel oval plaque inset into each butt-cap engraved "Tatham & Egg's Improvement 941". Single set triggers, steel trigger guards and ramrod pipes, wooden ramrods.

The set contained in their correct wooden carrying case with green baize lining, containing a good red leather covered powder flask and a steel bullet mold. The pistols 15 inches long. Case size 21 X 8 inches. Very good condition. Ref 9321.
This is an antique weapon and is sold as a collectors item only. No Licence is required in the United Kingdom.
