Description

~ Circa 1630 Cased Dog Lock Musketoon ~

This is a semi military dog lock musketoon with a brass barrel, fitted in its original case.

It has a dark walnut stock, brass butt plate, steel trigger guard and steel dog lock.

The octagonal and cylindrical barrel has a large lightly flared muzzle.

The original ramrod is included.

There are three proof stamps on the left side of the barrel, whilst the top is engraved “E.M. 5 Dec 1689”.

It is housed within it’s original case, and comes with a leather powder flask & screwdriver, which still has visible decoration along the blade.

~ Dimensions ~

The barrel has a length of 16.5 inches (41.9 cm), with the blunderbuss having an overall length of 32 inches (81.3 cm). The bore flares out to 1.8 inches (4.6 cm) in diameter. It weighs 3.38 kg.

The case has a length of 33.2 inches (84.4 cm), a depth of 7.5 inches (19 cm) & a height of 4 inches (10.2 cm). It weighs 4.01 kg.

The powder flask has a length of 9 inches (22.8 cm) & a width of 3 inches (7.6 cm).

The screwdriver has a overall length of 15 inches (38.1 cm), with the blade measuring 9.5 inches (24.1 cm).

The set weighs 7.74 Kg.

~ Condition ~

The metal has largely darkened due to it’s age. The barrel, aside from some minor marks, remains in excellent order. The lock & hammer have areas of very light corrosion.

The stock is in largely good order but woodworm holes are present.

It cocks and releases with a strong spring.

The box is in mostly good condition other than minor useage/storage wear.

The screwdriver has darkened, the blade has rusted with pitting wear but the etchings can still be seen.

The leather flask is in good order.
