~ Circa 1780 Flemish Brass Flintlock Blunderbuss ~
The brass barreled blunderbuss has a beautifully polished & lacquered walnut stock of graduated tones, darker towards the butt.
The lock plate is engraved “G. Devillers A Liège” with floral & foliate decorations.
The blunderbuss has brass fittings including the acorn trigger guard and rosette under the trigger.
The brass barrel has an octagonal breech area and round fore section. There are three proof marks on the left side.
It has its original horn tipped ramrod.
~ Dimensions ~
The caliber is 1 inch.
The barrel length is 14 inches (35.5 cm), the muzzle internal diameter is 1.5 inches (3.9 cm) with an internal bore of 1 inch (2,5cm). The overall length of the blunderbuss is 29 inches (73.5 cm).
It weighs 2.5 kg.
~ Condition ~
The stock is in excellent condition, the only loss I can see is a period small chip under the lock plate. There is minor/minimal surface scuffing The barrel is in excellent order.
The lock & hammer are made of steel and have darkened due to their age, though they are free from rust and damage. It half cocks, cocks and release with a strong spring.
