~ An Under and Over Double Barreled Percussion Pistol circa 1840 ~
The double trigger brass guard is nicely foliate engraved and has a fore lip. The brass pommel has a hinged scallop shell lid with a compartment to store the percussion caps.
The walnut stock has a chased pattern to both side of parallel lines.
The left lock plate is marked with the gunsmiths name, which appears to read “AMA&GLAB”, the rest having become faded. The right lock plate is blank.
Attached to the right barrel is the original metal ram rod with a swirled end.
~ Dimensions ~
The barrels have a length of 10.3 inches (26.3 cm). The pistol has an overall length of 16.5 inches (41.9 cm). It weighs 970 g.
~ Condition ~
The pistol is in good order. The stock is in excellent order with only minor signs of wear or damage. The metalwork has some bluing remaining, butt shows no signs of pitting or rust with only minor scratching.
It half cocks, cocks and releases smoothly with a strong spring to bore sides.
