~ Circa 1870 Martini-Henry Bayonet and Scabbard ~
Most probably this is one of the export bayonets which saw action in the American Civil War, due to the fact that is missing the usual British markings (Broad Arrow over WD mark and Enfield inspector's mark).
The bayonet comes in its original leather and brass scabbard.
There are no marks on the scabbard either.
~ Dimensions ~
The length of the blade is 20.9 inches (53 cm) and its overall length is 23.5 (59.5 cm).
The bayonet in its scabbard measures 23.5 (59.5 cm).
~ Condition ~
The blade has dark spots which developed minor surface rust, as expected for its age. There is some pitting on the socket.
The scabbard is in good condition for it age. Its brown leather preserves a good shape and has minor signs of wear. The brass components have some dents and dings.
The tip of the scabbard was reattached at one point in time using brass nails.
