~ A Circa 1890 French Infantry Officers Sabre Sword ~
The 3 branch brass hilt is made of a main branch with two lateral branches converging on the bare arch joint with a short-tailed pommel cap with leaves and floral decoration. The two lateral branches are decorated on both sides.
The grip is leather covered, wrapped with twisted steel wire.
The scabbard was only fitted with the upper suspension ring, the lower scabbard ring was not fitted after 1887 to enable the fixture of the sword to the saddle.
~ Dimensions ~
The blade has a length of 34.5 inches (87.6 cm), with the sword measuring 40.5 inches (102.8 cm) overall, and 41 inches (104.1 cm) long with the scabbard on. It weighs 1.25 kg.
~ Condition ~
The blade is clean with a good edge and in excellent order. The hilt is in excellent order too. The scabbard has one small shallow crease upper right.
