~ Circa 18th Century Broadsword And Scabbard ~
This is a so called ‘backsword’ and it is characterised by a straight single-edged blade, a hilt with a single-handed grip and a "false edge" on the back near the tip, which was sharpened to make an actual edge and facilitate thrusting attacks.
The sword has a double fullered blade with a steel basket, a heavy round shaped pommel and black ray skin twisted copper wired grip.
It comes in its original black leather scabbard with steel fittings.
~ Dimensions ~
The blade is 33 inches (84 cm) long and the overall length of the sword is 39 ½ inches (100.5 cm).
The overall length of the sword in its scabbard is 40 inches (101.5 cm).
It weighs 1.4 Kg.
~ Condition ~
The sword is in good condition for its age.
The blade has developed some age pitting and it has a few nicks on its edge.
It is rust free though.
The hilt and the grip remain in good condition with minimal ageing but free of damage.
The scabbard is partially worn. Its metal fittings lost the chrome.
