Damascus steel is given a wavy pattern by hammer-welding strips of steel and iron followed by repeated heating and forging. Folding the pattern, reminiscent of flowing water, into the steel. Such items were often marketed in Damascus during the medieval period. The reputation and history of Damascus steel has given rise to many legends, such as the ability to cut through a rifle barrel or to cut a hair falling across the blade.
This lock knife's Damascus pattern continues after the blade and half way along the knife handle on the bolster. It has a beautiful pattern produced by folding the steel many times. The knife has a lock back mechanism and an ebony finish handle.
