~ Early Third Reich German Army Presentation Dagger ~
This is what I believe to be an imperial or early third reich German army presentation dagger with an etched blade, the type that was given to officers on 'graduation'.
I have seen this identical 'Flaming Ball' pommel on both Kriegsmarine imperial presentation daggers and first pattern third reich ones but they have a stouter cross guard with an anchor on one flat. This one has an oak leaf pattern instead.
If you can help with its identity, that would be very much appreciated.
There is no makers mark.
~ Dimensions ~
The dagger is 13.75 inches (35cm) in length with a 8.75 inch (22cm) blade.
~ Condition ~
The unnamed blades edges are clean, there is minimal pitting to one side on the ricasso. The etching has worn away to the tip. The grip is complete apart from a small adjoining the pommel chips and there are also hairline cracks.
The scabbard has one small dent, it has lost the majority of its black finish resulting in some surface corrosion.
The dagger fits in smoothly to the scabbard.
~ Postage ~
UK postage is £18 or the dagger can be collected from our shop in Portsmouth Historic Dockyard.
