RARE, Boer War & WW1 Lee Speed Patent MK 1 Lee Metford .303 Calibre Rifle With Very Scarce Chained Lee Metford Box Magazine & WW1 1915 Issue Stock Disc Regiment Marked To The Dublin Fusiliers. Sn 10310.

The Lee-Metford rifle is a bolt action British Army service rifle, combining James Paris Lee's rear-locking bolt system and ten-round magazine with a seven groove rifled barrel designed by William Ellis Metford. It replaced the Martini-Henry rifle in 1888, following nine years of development and trials and remained in service until replaced by the similar Lee-Enfield. The lee Metford rifle was used extensively during the Boer wars. This is an excellent Enfield made Mark 1 Lee Metford Rifle. The rifle is in great condition with all original woodwork which has the early finger grooves in the fore stock as used in the Boer Wars. It also has steel butt plate with trap, magazine cut off, flip up ladder sight and additional flip up aperture sight, long range volley sight, block and blade fore sight, bayonet bar, correct bolt cover and is fitted with sling swivels. The weapon also has it's original chained Lee Metford box magazine. The steel grip strap under the bolt is stamped 'Lee Speed Patents'. The stock is fitted with brass disc stamped with early WW1 Date '5.15' (May 1915) together with number '1019' and '4.D.F' to the 4th Battalion Dublin Fusiliers (The Regiment raised 6 Battalions during the Great War serving on the Western Front, Gallipoli, Middle East and Salonika. The Fusiliers received 3 Victoria Crosses, 48 Battle Honours and 5 Theatre Honours. They lost over 4,700 killed and thousands wounded during the War). The weapon strips, cocks & dry fires perfectly. Price includes deactivation Certificate and UK delivery. Sn 10310
