A very good quality English round bodied Flintlock pocket pistol, by the world famous H. Nock. Circa 1780-1810. Henry Nock (1741–1804) was a British inventor and engineer of the Napoleonic period, best known as a gunsmith and a major supplier to the military during the Napoleonic wars. As well as supplying the military and civilian markets, Nock made expensive pieces for the aristocracy and royalty and was an appointed gunmaker to the King. Nock's business eventually became Wilkinson Sword, a company which today makes razor blades and other shaving equipment, and until very recently, made ceremonial officer's swords for the the armed forces of the world including the British Army. The finely chequered walnut butt fitted with a diamond shaped silver escutcheon. Screw-off 1.5 inch barrel, drop down folding trigger and sliding top safety. The frame stamped underneath with proof marks. The sideplates both engraved with a stand of arms, makers name "Nock" on one side and "London" on the other side. Good working order and condition. Overall length approx 6.5 inches. This is an good example of an English Flintlock pocket pistol of the type carried for personal protection during the late 18th century.
