ON HOLD### NEW LISTING 7/9/15 ###EXTRA RARE WW2 BRITISH PARATROOPER / RAF PILOTS JUNGLE KNIFE WITH JUNGLE GREEN WEBBING SHEATH.
Overall good used condition.
Extremely Rare WW2 Jungle Warfare Item. The original Martindale (Manufacturer) / Crocodile Logo/ Military Broad Arrow/ and date 194? are faint but readable.
At some period would say post WW2 the original impractical leather leg sheath with the two long leg leather leg straps has been replaced by the more practical belt sheath very nicely converted from a British 1944 pattern jungle geen webbing sheath for the long 1944 pattern machette.
These were designed to be used by Paratroopers but both RAF Pilots and Paratroopers used them as both a machette, a survival knife, and a fighting knife.
This has a relatively short for a machette 24.3 cm blade with shaped hilt and hard rubber grip designed for maximum grip strength in the constant wetness and sweat of the Jungles of Burma.
Overall length about 37.3 cm.
The three washer rivets are rock solid and the grips still have nearly all their original chequering.
Overall good condition especially considering its age and jungle / paratrooper usage.
This same knife is shown in Ron Flooks Book "British and Commonwealth Military Knives" Page 109 and Page 110. Even has a photo of a RAF Pilot climbing into a cockpit wearing one of these.
