RARE C 1870 French ‘Apache’ 5 mm Pinfire Folding Brass & Steel Knuckle Duster & Dagger Revolver With Connections To The Infamous Underworld Razorhurst Gang Of Depression Era Sydney Australia Concealed In The C1920 Sydney Chocolate Box In Which Found - 13183

Designed in Belgium by Louis Dolne in 1860 these weapons became popular on the streets of 19th century Paris. The French underworld gang ‘Les Apaches’ favoured the all-in-one weapon, which is where it gets its name. It is a fully fold-up weapon, meaning it could fit in a pocket or be easily concealed in the palm of the hand for self-defence and to be used at very close quarters. As the world emerged from the shadow of WW1, drugs, alcohol and prostitution became the criminal order of the day – and no more so than within the belly of Australia’s bloodthirsty razor gangs. These weapons became popular with Australian razor gang members. The criminal group operating in the Darlinghurst area of Sydney were known as the Razorhurst gang. This Apache was handed to its previous owner in 1995 inside the Cahill's Sydney cardboard chocolate box which accompanies this piece by the original owner who had been the girlfriend of one of the Razorhurst Gang members. The weapon is in excellent condition the brass frame is stamped "1515" "DOLNE-BAR" "INV. BREVETE" and has small inspection marks “JHL” & “DAE”. The hinged knuckle duster / grip is released by depression of a steel button on the frame. It has a steel folding trigger, spurless hammer, blued steel cylinder and mounts. It has a 3” folding ‘kris’ form blade which locks in place and is released by operation of a small lever on the underside of the frame. The weapon measures 4 ¼” length when folded & 8 ¼” fully opened. The pistol’s cocking and firing actions work as they should and all of its folding and locking mechanisms are crisp and tight. These weapons are sought after in the collecting community. The price for this Apache with connections to Sydney’s depression era gangland includes UK delivery. NB As an antique obsolete calibre pinfire weapon no licence is required to own this item in the UK if retained as part of a collection or display. Sn 13183
