Create my profile now! This is a French Lebel bayonet with a white metal hilt, down swept quillon and an early (pre 1893) round button catch. The round button press was altered in 1893 to a squarer shape. It is a battle field relic with the top of the hilt having a bullet hole on one side where the bullet has struck it a glancing blow. It would be nice to think that the bayonet saved the soldiers life. It is complete with a good condition scabbard. The bayonet was designed for the Lebel Rifle (see No.205/206, pages 85 & 96 of 'The Bayonet Book' by Watts & White). The hook quillon side is stamped '1580'. It has a 20 1/2" cruciform blade. The price includes UK delivery. Bayo 174
