~ A new specification Hotchkiss M1922 anti-aircraft Ottoman Turkish AA machine gun with heavy armoured barrel ~
The gun comes with it's original deactivation certificate, dated 12/6/2002.
Both sides of the receiver are stamped. One side has Arabic text, whilst the other side has Arabic text and "Brevete S.G.D.G No 6424". The star and crescent symbol is stamped just before the barrel.
In the book 'Small arms, artillery and special weapons of the third reich an
encyclopaedic survey - Terry Gander and Peter Chamberlain ISBN 0 354 01108 1 similar examples are shown and are referred to as 7.9mm leMG 152(g)' a commercial hotchkiss design some sold to czechoslovakia only which saw limited German army use. Some of that later Hotchkiss weapons have the larger smooth barrels which could well have been manufactured with the same threading and fitting as as the early weapons and in other books they show weapons specially modified for use in fixed defences like the Maginot line with very large solid
'sustained fire barrels'. It could well be the case that the German army salvaged the weapons.
~ Dimensions ~
The barrel has a length of 27 inches (68.5cm), with the gun having an overall length of 54 inches (137cm). It weighs 12.87kg.
~ Condition ~
The wood is rough with a number of scratches and splits. The barrel is worn and pitted. The receiver is worn from age and use. The guns can not be cocked or dry fired.
