1871-1879 American Johnson & Bye ‘Eureka’ .32 Rim Fire Calibre Nickel Plated 5 Shot Single Action Revolver. Sn 13207 - 13207

The Eureka is a five shot revolver in .32 rimfire that was manufactured in America by Johnson & Bye (Iver Johnson and Martin Bye) sometime in the period between 1871 and 1899. The same revolver was manufactured under various trade names, the most common being Defender, others being Defender 89, Eagle, Encore, Favorite Navy, Lion, Smoker, Old Hickory, and Tycoon. The .32 rimfire shown here was the medium frame, but the gun was also available in a small frame .22 and a large frame .38 or .41 calibre. The Eureka is one of many revolvers based on S&W and Colt Patents produced in the 1860’s through to the late 1870s with dynamic or quirky names to attract sales. This is an excellent original example of the ‘Eureka’. It retains its original nickel finish. It has a 2 ½” round steel barrel (6 ¾” overall). The top of the frame is crisply marked 'Eureka'. It has a shrouded trigger, steel hammer and undamaged rosewood grips. The action which is perfect and is single action only. The cylinder is released for speed loading a pre loaded cylinder by removal of the cylinder pin which doubles as a ram rod. The price includes UK delivery. NB As an antique obsolete calibre rim fire revolver no licence is required to own this pistol in the UK if retained as a part of a collection or display. Sn 13207
