Description

Victorian Gentleman’s Lacquered ‘Birds Eye Maple’ Sword Stick With ‘Masonic & Religious Devices’ Etched Blade By Kenning Of London, Liverpool & Manchester. Sn 11649 - 11649

An excellent original Victorian ‘Birds Eye Maple’ Sword Stick (Bird's eye is a type of figure that occurs within several kinds of wood, most notably in hard maple. It has a distinctive pattern that resembles tiny, swirling eyes disrupting the smooth lines of grain. It is somewhat reminiscent of a burl, but it is quite different: the small knots that make the burl are missing). The sword has a 28” rapier type blade which is beautifully etched and tooled with foliate panels on both sides with Masonic Devices & Religious imagery. The ricasso of one side is marked by the manufacturer ‘Kenning London, Liverpool & Manchester ‘. The sword measures 28” overall (In its scabbard it measures 39 ¼” overall). It has an intricate silver ‘wire weave’ fitting at the handle end (no hallmarks visible) and brass end cap which is embossed with Royal Crown. Its scabbard is undamaged & it has a brass ferrule at the throat. The tip of the scabbard has a conical brass end cap. Price for this attractive Victorian Masonic sword stick with silver fitting includes UK delivery. Sn 11649
