~ A Good Late 18th Century Brass Barreled Blunderbuss by Muley of Dublin ~
It has a dark walnut stock and brass fittings with a steel lock. It dates to circa 1785.
The barrel has a large flared ring turned muzzle.
The steel lock plate is marked ‘Muley’.
The original ramrod is included.
The right of the stock has the outline of a circular stamp just behind the reverse plate, it is too faint to be read.
There are two proof stamps on the left side of the barrel.
The brass butt plate is lightly stamped with the registration number “AR5515”.
~ Dimensions ~
The barrel has a length of 16 inches (40.6 cm), with the blunderbuss having an overall length of 32 inches (81.3 cm). The bore flares out to 1.5 inches in diameter. It weighs 3.30 kg.
~ Condition ~
The lock & hammer are made of steel and have darkened due to their age.
The frizzen shows signs of surface rust, the lock & hammer remain rust free. The stock has some general surface wear but is otherwise fine - its is complete.
The barrel remains in good order.
It half cocks, cocks and release with a decent but not strong spring.
