AN HISTORICALLY INTERESTING AND EX RARE MALAYA INSURGENCY JUNGLE SURVIVAL KNIFE DATED 1952-1954 IN KUKRI FORM. ORIGINAL SOLDIERS DETAILS ON SHEATH. Overall it is in reasonably nice / nice condition especially considering its age and usage. This is a military knife I have had in my own collection for over forty years.
The knife has a long slim Sirupate Gurkha Kukri style of blade measuring 26cm long measured in a straight line not on the curve. There is a deep number 2 stamped on the blade which is exactly the same form as found on some WW1 / WW2 Indian made military knives.
The original belt frog has clearly written " Malaya " and the date 1952 - 54. The wooden sheath has most of its original jungle green paint. Would say the green 1944 webbing sheath reinforcements ( top section dated 1945 ) and the wooden handle are later replacements. The wood handle is in fact the hilt made for a jungle use Sykes Fairbairn dagger. ( The wood handle being preferred on the Sykes Fairbairn in Malaya and Burma as the wood provided a better grip in wet tropical conditions ). The wood handle also has a raised centre section from a band of webbing wrapped around the centre in the same fashion as some military kukries particularly the WW2 Mk4.
A very rare British Army Malayan Insurgency Jungle Knife.
